Your Check Up From The Neck Up

May 14, 20253 min read

I just finished one of my favorite books of all time.

It's a classic written 50 years ago.

"See You at the Top" by Zig Ziglar.

Zig’s got this thick Southern drawl that makes every story hit harder.

He throws out tons of funny one-liners like “get a check up from the neck up”

And warns you to watch out for “stinkin’ thinkin’”.

You’re laughing,

Nodding,

And suddenly

BAM!

You’re rethinking your entire mindset.

As I listened to his audiobook (for probably the 10th time),

it took me back to junior high when I first discovered it.

Never had words on a page transformed my thinking so completely before.

Never had I felt so INSPIRED about what I could achieve in my life.

This wasn't just reading.

It was a mental awakening.

The uncomfortable truth about your mind

I've noticed something about myself over the years.

The seasons of my life when I’m reading and learning every day.

Those are the fun ones.

The ones where I’m mentally alive.

Stimulated.

Clear-headed.

Curious.

When I stop reading?

  • Everything slows down.

  • I get stuck in the grind.

  • Life gets dull.

And you know why?

Our mind is like a muscle.

Feed it daily or watch it atrophy.

Do you eat every day?

If someone told you they missed lunch, you'd hear all about it.

"I was SO busy I didn't even eat today!"

Missing a meal is a big deal.

We instinctively know our bodies need fuel.

But what about your mind?

Are you feeding it daily?

Are you intentionally growing your mental capacity every single day?

Or are you letting your intellectual muscles waste away while meticulously tracking your protein intake?

The $20 investment with infinite returns

The best ROI you'll ever get is an investment in yourself.

A $20 book can completely change everything for you.

ONE book can give you:

  • The knowledge

  • The insights

  • And the motivation

–to alter the entire trajectory of your life.

What other investment pays those kinds of returns?

Your car should be a university

The average commuter spends enough time in their car every 3 years to earn the equivalent of a master's degree.

Let that sink in.

My car is my university.

Yours should be too.

  • Sales techniques.

  • Communication skills.

  • Business systems.

  • Health optimization.

  • Career advancement.

You can learn ANYTHING during those otherwise wasted hours.

Why am I so positive all the time?

People ask me this often.

"Zack, why are you always so happy?"

"How do you keep such a good attitude?"

People think I was simply born this way.

Here's the truth: I wasn't born more optimistic than you.

We all start life as optimistic children who believe anything is possible.

But years of negative influences slowly erode that natural positivity...

UNLESS you intentionally counteract it with daily positive input.

I'm positive because I've been reading Zig Ziglar since I was a kid.

I'm positive because I feed my mind motivational content every single morning.

I'm positive because I made a CHOICE about the information I consume.

Zig said it best:

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last.
Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.”

Take action now

Your day starts with what you put into your mind.

Begin tomorrow with 20 minutes of reading something that expands your thinking.

Turn your commute into a mobile university.

Select books that challenge, inspire, and motivate you.

But start with just one book.

See You At The Top is a perfect first choice.

Your mind deserves daily nourishment just as much as your body.

Stay curious,
