Frantic vs. Focused
Can you imagine Jesus rushing from task to task, frantically checking boxes on his to-do list?
Me neither.
Instead, I picture him completely focused on the person standing right in front of him.
Present.
Intentional.
Calm.
He was FULLY THERE with whoever needed him in that moment.
No smartphone distractions.
No mental time travel.
No "sorry, could you repeat that? I was thinking about something else..."
Imagine bringing that level of presence into your day.
What would shift?
Because here’s the uncomfortable truth most of us avoid:
We’re not overwhelmed because we have too much to do.
We’re overwhelmed because we never fully do the thing that’s in front of us.
We’re mentally time-traveling.
Regretting.
Overthinking.
Forecasting.
Worrying.
And then we wonder why we feel stretched thin.
Lao Tzu said:
“If you’re depressed, you’re living in the past.
If you’re anxious, you’re living in the future.
If you’re at peace, you’re living in the present.”
Peace comes from presence.
But here’s the twist most people miss…
Presence plus gratitude = power.
Gratitude is wild because it doesn’t care about time.
It is this incredible force that can connect past, present, and future into one supercharged NOW.
You can be grateful for what happened yesterday, what's happening right now, and what's coming tomorrow.
And in that state?
You think more clearly.
You communicate more confidently.
You sell more effectively.
You enjoy your life while you’re actually living it.
That’s the power zone.
And it starts with one tiny habit:
Pause.
Try this with me.
Seriously!
..don’t just skim this part.
Inhale slowly for a few seconds…
Hold…
Exhale slowly…
Notice the space around you.
Feel your body settle.
That’s presence.
That tiny pause interrupts the mental chaos and pulls you out of the past/future fog.
Now you’re back in the room.
Back with your work.
Back with your people.
And once you're here, ask yourself one question:
“What’s the most important thing I can do right now?”
Not tomorrow.
Not later.
Right now.
Then do it fully.
One conversation.
One task.
One person.
One moment.
All of you.
Not 30% while your brain is sprinting in circles.
Because here’s the truth:
Everything you want is built moment by moment.
Not later.
Not someday.
Now.
It's all happening right NOW, in this moment.
Stack enough well-spent moments and you build:
better projects
better relationships
better results
a better life
Presence compounds.
So here’s my challenge for you today:
Measure your life by your presence — not your productivity.
Not “how much did I check off the list?”
But:
“How well did I show up to the moment I was in?”
Because the better we get at being all there, the better our conversations, decisions, projects, and outcomes become.
“Wherever you are, be all there.” -Jim Elliott
Simple.
Direct.
True.
Reply and tell me:
What person or project could you give more presence to this week?
And what techniques help you stay grounded in the present moment?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
